I spent my 24th birthday in the Big Apple with my dad. Getting lost with him multiple times on New York's subway system was fun but I think I've mastered it now!
It was my first time visiting the city that never sleeps and it was a great experience. The culture compared to San Francisco is really different. People on the streets walk with a purpose - going to work, meeting a friend, catching the next train; there were so many times I had to dodge people walking towards me.
We hit up many of the tourist spots: Times Square, WTC Memorial, Liberty Island, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Empire State Building.
Of course we caught the Knicks vs. Warriors at MSG and that was an awesome experience. The arena really is a sight to see. Getting heckled by some Knicks fans was fun too.
My favorite place would have had to be visiting McGee's. I almost forgot to go but thankfully Kimberly reminded me so I made sure I found time. McGee's pub was used as inspiration for McLaren's in How I Met Your Mother, my favorite show. I had two Robin Sparkles (very strong btw) and Daddy's Home. I've finished HIMYM about 3 or 4 times and having the chance to visit the pub that their bar was inspired by was amazing.
Without Uber & Yelp we probably wouldn't have been able to get around or even eaten so well. Notables are: Junior's, Friedman's. Halal Guys, Levain Bakery, Shake Shack, Petite Abeille, & Luke's Lobster.
Hoping to visit again some time soon. Enjoy.
